Senior Systems Engineer

Ankem is appointing a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the design and delivery of the systems behind its client platforms: the calculation engines, integrations and secure infrastructure that institutions and enterprises run under their own name. The role works across engineering, research and client teams, from first architecture to production.

Responsibilities

  • Own the system architecture of client platforms: services, data models, integrations and deployment.
  • Design and build high-precision calculation engines and the APIs that expose them, in Python and TypeScript, with Rust or C++ where performance demands it.
  • Lead integrations with clients’ existing ERP, identity (SSO, SAML, OAuth) and data systems.
  • Set engineering standards for code review, automated testing, observability, security and documentation.
  • Run production on AWS or GCP: CI/CD, monitoring, incident response and cost control.
  • Work with research, design and client teams to turn requirements into specifications and delivery plans, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

  • A postgraduate degree is mandatory: an MSc in Computer Science or Engineering, or an MBA with a technical first degree.
  • Six or more years building and running production systems, at least two of them in a senior or lead role.
  • Expert command of Python or TypeScript, relational databases and API design.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, containers and infrastructure as code.
  • A sound grasp of security: identity and access management, encryption and data protection.
  • Clear written English, and the ability to explain technical decisions to clients who are not engineers.
